Frequently asked questions

Tap the scan button on the home screen. Costcard uses a unified scanner that auto-detects whether you're pointing at a receipt or a shelf price tag. For receipts, AI-powered OCR extracts every item, price, and discount automatically — no manual typing. Make sure the receipt is flat and well-lit for best results. The scan usually takes 5-15 seconds.

When you're browsing the aisles, you can scan shelf price tags too. The same scanner auto-detects that it's a tag (not a receipt) and extracts the item number, name, and current price. This lets you track prices on items you're considering buying, or update price data for items already in your pantry.

Costco offers a 30-day price adjustment policy. If something you bought drops in price within 30 days, you can get the difference back. When Costcard detects a price drop, it creates a claim with the original price, current price, savings amount, and days remaining. Head to the membership counter with your receipt or member card and they'll refund the difference on the spot.

The Trending feed shows what's happening at warehouses in your region. You'll see categories like On Sale, Price Drops, Popular items, Back in Stock, and Best Deals. It's a quick way to see what's worth buying before you make the trip. Currently available for San Diego and expanding to more regions.

Your pantry is automatically built from scanned receipts. It shows what you have at home with quantities, categories, and last-purchased dates. This helps you avoid buying duplicates — you can check your pantry before heading to the warehouse. You can also manually adjust quantities as you use things up.

Yes. The Shopping List feature supports household sharing. Add items by voice, paste a list from your notes, or tap from your pantry. Everyone in the household sees the same list and can check items off in real time.

On any receipt detail screen, you can mark individual items for return. Costcard keeps these in a separate Returns list so you don't forget to bring them back on your next trip.

Costcard uses device-based authentication — your account is created automatically when you first open the app. No email or password needed. If you want to sync across devices or protect your data, you can optionally sign in with Apple. There's also a Demo Mode that lets new users explore the app with sample data before committing.

For best results: ensure good lighting (natural or bright overhead), keep the receipt flat without folds, and hold the camera directly above. Thermal paper receipts can fade — if your receipt is old or faded, try a higher-contrast photo. If scanning still fails, contact us at [email protected] with a photo and we'll help.

Yes, Costcard is completely free to download and use. All core features — receipt scanning, price tracking, claims, trending deals, pantry, shopping lists — are included at no cost. There's an optional Tip Jar if you'd like to support development, but it's entirely voluntary and doesn't unlock any extra features.

Costcard currently supports US warehouse locations. Canadian and international support is on the roadmap. If you'd like to see your region supported, let us know at [email protected] — it helps us prioritize.

No. Costcard is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Costco Wholesale Corporation. Costcard is a third-party tool built to help warehouse shoppers track prices and maximize their membership benefits.

Go to the Profile tab in the app, then Settings, then Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, all receipts, all tracking data, and any stored images. This action cannot be undone. Alternatively, email [email protected] with your request and we'll process it within 48 hours.
